IE and Dartmouth Tuck Deans Discuss MBA Future

December 19th, 2009

The recent financial meltdown has caused renewed calls for a increased regulation and better corporate governance. Business schools are providing academic research to inform such debates. At the same time, B-Schools are looking to ameliorate the image of MBA holders being super arrogant alpha males. The Economist interviewed Santiago Iñiguez de Ozoño, dean of Spain’s IE Business school, and Paul Danos, dean of Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business in America about how the crisis has affected B-Schools on both sides of the Atlantic.

Takeaways are:

  • Management is in more demand than ever with more demand for entrepreneurship
  • B-Schools need to conduct more research relevant to real problems of business
  • CEOs have to be trained to be more analytical to understand the complexity of the world
  • Risk assessment training needs to be reformed and skepticism needs to be introduced
  • 90% of B-School graduates had nothing to do with the crisis
  • Leadership does not mean elitism or arrogance by teamwork
